Today I returned home from a week-long training detachment to El Centro in preparation for my upcoming deployment. We go out there once in a while for detachments when our training requires us to get away from populated areas and places with a lot of air traffic. El Centro is a great location, since there is a Navy air facility there and it is in the middle of the California desert, where there are far fewer flying restrictions.
The training is very valuable, but the best part of being El Centro has to be the cherry limeades. Although it is over 100 miles from San Diego, El Centro is home of the closest Sonic restaurant. For those of you who have not had the opportunity to live in a region with a Sonic, it is a 50s-style burger joint where you actually park and the servers bring your food out to you.
I've never been a big fan of the food, but their limeades are freakin' awesome; my favorite, of course, being the cherry limeade. My sister introduced me to them back when I was a flight student in Corpus Christi and she was living in San Antonio during her Air Force days. I used to get them all the time back then, but now my limeade fixes are limited to my infrequent visits to the "Pearl of the Desert".

So Jealous!!!! Cherry Limeades are the best! And now you can get Diet Cherry Limeades so you don't feel bad for getting them all the time. The closest one to me now is in southern Illinois, about 3 hours away. :(
