Anniversaries

Lady Anne and I must be the most boring couple on the planet. Today is our 3rd wedding anniversary. My present to her was a new set of tires for her car. Her present to me was a Twix candy bar.

Well, I'm joking a little. The tires were never meant to be her present; the purchase just happened to coincide with our anniversary. However, we never buy each other presents for any occasion: birthdays, anniversaries, etc. It isn't because we don't value these occasions or don't like each other. It's just that neither of us really ever want anything, and we don't like buying junk that will just sit around.

I know what a lot of you are thinking: as the guy, I pressured Lady Anne into accepting this philosophy so I wouldn't have to do any work. Most of my friends think the same thing; I've received many dirty looks and accusations after explaining this. In actuality, it is the other way around. On her birthday, after I agreed not to buy her a present, I went out and bought her a present anyway. She was thankful for the gift, but definitely not happy that I went against our agreement. At that point, I knew she wasn't doing the "girl" thing and saying the opposite of what she meant.

Not that I mind at all. I love that all I have to say is "Happy Anniversary", take her out to a nice dinner, and that's good enough for her. She'd rather save up the money we would normally spend on gifts and go on vacations anyway, and I love that too.

Happy Anniversary, babe!

(P.S. Last Saturday was also my 12th anniversary of being in the Navy...only eight years until I'm eligible for retirement!!!)

Happy Belated Anniversary!

I would have loved to have received new tires as a gift. And a new brake job, for that matter. Although, I wouldn't really want anyone to get those for me seeing as they're a bit on the expensive side, especially the brakes.
