Deployment, Day 20 - Standing the watch

I felt a little under the weather last night as I took my watch. I felt weak and dizzy like I had a fever. I think I was having a reaction to my smallpox vaccine. I feel better today, though.

Speaking of the vaccine, I had to go into medical today to make sure the vaccine had taken. If there was no reaction to the vaccine, I would have had to get it again. No worries, though, because the vaccination spot on my arm had turned into a festering white blister as advertised. Yummy!

I can’t talk about exactly where I am in the world, but the weather has become tropical: very hot and muggy, even at night. The best thing about night watches is that when we are way out to sea like now, we can see thousands of stars that you could never see in the city. Night watches are boring, but it is really beautiful. It’s hard to believe that there was once a time in this world where the sky appeared everywhere like it does out here.
