Deployment, Day 170 – Last stand (down)

The end of deployment is only 13 days away. It is getting so close. Everyone is starting to feel it: a mixture of tension and excitement. One of the best things about the end of deployment is that the milestones come fast and furious: the last port, the last month, the last week, the last watch, the last time you have to do laundry, etc.

For me, I just completed my last Safety Council (a quarterly meeting with all the department heads to discuss safety issues/concerns/statistics, etc.), and tomorrow morning will be my last safety stand down of the deployment. We will soon have our last port call, during which I will do my last load of laundry (the clothes I have left will last until I get home). We have entered our last month (August), and I have paid my last mess bill to the wardroom.

I have finishing up my last few bridge watches. According to my calculations, I only have 11 left until home. I am down to my last 5 cans of Red Bull. I am down to my last bottle of shampoo (although I only brought two; I’ve spent most of the deployment without hair), and my last bottle of liquid soap.
According to my deployment tracker, I am down to my last 7% of deployment, and the last 1,000,000 seconds. I’ll be counting each one down until we’re moored San Diego!
