Yesterday was my last day in Chicago before my deployment begins later this month. I've been on deployments before, but this goodbye was the hardest by far. This time I had to say two tearful goodbyes to two families instead of one. The worst part was having to pull myself away from an inconsolable Lady Anne at the airport.
Compared to this, my deployments as a single guy were a piece of cake. I don't know how the married guys (and gals) in the Navy can keep doing this over and over, especially the ones with kids. I am guaranteed to do one more deployment after this one; after that I really need to consider what I am willing to give up to keep this Navy career going.
