Went to Chicago this past weekend for Aura's and Sherwin's wedding (will comment on this in a future post), and it just so happened that Cubs clinched the NL Central while I was home. Great job Cubbies; I have to admit that I gave up on you a little back in June, but you guys really pulled it out and finished strong.
Anyway, I hung out with my brother in Lincoln Square that night, toasting the Cubbies over Bass Ale and PBR. For those of you who plan to raise a cold one to the celebrate the Cubs in October, here is a list of recommended toasts, direct from Lincoln Square:
1. Cubs surge through June-July and September
2. Lou Piniella
3. Jim Hendry's offseason moves
4. All the Cubs on the 40-man roster that deserve to play in the postseason but will probably be cut (Mike Fontenot, Henry Blanco, Felix Pie(?))
5. Cliff Floyd's late father
6. Absolution from curses (billy goat, Bartman)
7. Harry Caray
8. Ron Santo
9. Mets collapse
10. Cubs farm system
I'll be glued to the TV starting this Wednesday, when the Cubs start their NLDS series against the D-Backs. For you Cub fans out there, Mark DeRosa will be documenting his postseason experience on his MLB blog: http://markderosa.mlblogs.com/. It will be nice to see his insight on things, unlike Eric Karros's videos back in 2003 that has yet to be seen by the public eye.
