Last Sunday I went to the Chargers-Bears season opener at Qualcomm Stadium with Lawrence (Lady Anne's brother). We were both pretty excited: it was my first Bears game and Lawrence's first pro football game ever. Unfortunately our Bears really knew how to bring us back down from that high. The defense played really well, including a blocked field goal and a goal line stand (although that ended in a controversial turnover). It's hard to keep the Chargers out of the end zone, though, when your offense commits four turnovers and can't seem to stay on the field for more than two minutes at a time. Grossman also fumbled once (go figure) that was recovered by the Bears. The "Fire Grossman" talk will be starting early this year, I'm sure.
I also remembered why the Padres were smart to get their own ballpark and move away from Qualcomm Stadium. Qualcomm is such a hassle. The parking lot filled up and was closed an hour (or more) before the game, and we ended up parking at a trolley stop a couple miles from the stadium and missing the kickoff. If we would have taken the trolley all the way from the condo instead of driving part way, it would have been like $13 round-trip (including the transfer), and the trolley is JAMMED before and after the game. Once you are in your seats, it is almost impossible to find anything to eat. You have to walk a mile just to get a normal hot dog (the beer is plentiful, though).
It was all still worth it. Nothing can bring me down from the fact that football season is finally back! Go Bears, Go Illini, and Fight On, Trojans!!!
