Last night Lady Anne and I volunteered at the San Diego Food Bank. We put together boxes of food for underprivileged and elderly people. In two hours our little group assembled about 530 boxes of food. Not bad for for two hours' worth of work. We both agreed that it felt good to get out of the house and do something for people other than ourselves for a change. Lady Anne has already been thinking of other projects for which we can volunteer.
As for me, I haven't done volunteer work since I was in high school. I had always intended to go out and volunteer in the community ever since I moved to San Diego. However, I've never had the motivation to do anything about it, regardless of the pangs of middle-class guilt eating away at me.
Almost eight years later, it took Lady Anne to finally get my lazy butt out the front door to start doing my share to help others. She may make a decent man out of me yet.
