We had another holiday routine day yesterday. Usually we do these on Sunday, but our Sundays have been pretty busy for the last couple of weeks. This was also the day of our USO show. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the USO, they are a nonprofit organization that provides all types of free services to military members. One of their biggest services is to bring celebrities out to deployed troops to entertain them and raise morale. Bob Hope was huge in the USO and went overseas to entertain troops for years.
Yesterday the USO brought the rock group Crossfade over to the mighty Peleliu. I’ve never heard of this group before they came to the ship. I heard that they had one song that if you heard it, you would recognize it. After I got off watch in the afternoon, I grabbed some food at the end of the steel beach picnic on the flight deck, took a shower and did some laundry before the USO concert at 7:30pm. I went down there and listened to a few of their songs, and did not recognize a single one. They only played for a little over an hour, and the show was over. Not the most exciting USO show imaginable.
After studying non-stop for the last couple of weeks, I have been pretty lazy the last couple of days. Today after watch I worked out in the gym for the first time in about two weeks. I stopped going to the gym when I got sick, and I’ve only started to feel better now. It feels good to get that back into my routine.
After the gym I watched the latest episode of Lost that Lady Anne sent me on video. After that the remake of the Love Bug was on the ship’s television network, and for some reason I was inexplicably drawn into watching that. It’s an hour and a half of my life I’ll never get back.
