Deployment, Day 85 - Anniversary

Yesterday was my ten-year anniversary in the Navy. It’s hard to believe that I am already halfway through my career and can retire in another 10 years if I want. It really has been a blur; I don’t know where the time went. The only reason I care about this anniversary is because I get a pay raise. The more important anniversary is coming up. Along with Mother’s Day, the 14th is Lady Anne’s and my first wedding anniversary. Hopefully I will get a chance to call home.

The day after my anniversary is the halfway point of the deployment. Every time I reach one of these milestones I always say that it has gone by quickly, and this is no exception. However, I just found out that I will be expected to obtain my CDO in-port qualification along with my OOD qualification, all before July 15. This is because we will be short of CDOs when we get back to San Diego. A CDO is an officer in charge of the operations of the ship in-port, almost like the CO when the CO is away. It is a pretty significant qualification, although I am being pressured to get it a lot sooner than I intended.

Oh well, who needs sleep anyway? Time to get back to work.
