Deployment, Day 14: Iraq

I flew into Iraq for the first time yesterday. It was just a familiarization flight to see some of the more common areas I may see during a MEDEVAC. It was a little anti-climactic: just a few small huts and flocks of sheep here and there, and miles and miles of sand. Of course, it was super hot and I was literally squeezing sweat out of my helmet liner after the flight.

One cool part was when we flew near people's houses, a lot of them would come out and wave. In one part of the desert, there were also a lot of burned out wrecks of tanks and other vehicles still lying around from the first Gulf War.

The weather has been crappy lately. High winds have been blowing up a lot of sand and causing bad visibility. Hopefully it gets better tomorrow, because tomorrow I get to stand my first MEDEVAC alert. More on that later.
