Well, I spoke too soon. I was SUPPOSED to leave for deployment on Monday, but the Air Force cargo plane that was supposed to take us out to the desert had maintenance issues. Those issues persisted until here we are, four days later, and I'm still here in San Diego waiting to go.
This really isn't an issue for my detachment. All my guys have to do is sit a few extra days here in San Diego while they wait for the aircraft to get fixed. Our deployment won't get extended because of our delay. The people I feel sorry for are the people we are going out there to relieve. Those are the guys whose deployment may be impacted if we are late in relieving them.
The good news is that I just got the call that the aircraft is finally fixed, and it looks like we will be departing this afternoon. Finally! Time to get this deployment counter started.
