A small personal setback

A little bit of bad news on my plans to run the Rock and Roll marathon next month. I had to cancel due to a more important family commitment. It's probably a good thing anyway, because honestly, my training has not been going as well as I had hoped.
I've been doing my weekend long run pretty regularly, but I have not been keeping up with my shorter runs during the week as I should be. It is the continual weekday runs that builds the endurance and stamina for me to go long during the weekend. I increased my long run to 13.1 miles yesterday (the first time I've run that long since the San Dieguito half-marathon three months ago), and it did not feel comfortable at all.
I should be averaging at least 40 miles per week by now, but usually I'm lucky if I hit 20. I've been using the busy ship's schedule as an excuse, but you know what they say about excuses. If I want to be able to finish a full marathon in the time I want, I really need to increase my weekly mileage so that I can improve the weekend long runs.
I plan to make this week my turnaround week. My goal is to hit 30 miles this week. It sounds like a lot, but if I run five days this week that is an average of six miles a day, which is not bad. I'll update you all again next week.
I still plan to run a marathon this year, but it will just be postponed a few months. And no, I'm not going to run the Chicago Marathon again this October. They've increased the field this year to 45,000 runners, and they anticipate 1.2 million spectators. It's going to be a madhouse. I'm more likely to be trampled in the stampede than to finish the race.

Are you wearing a wrist-top monitor on your arm?

I have a camelback on, an MP3 player on one arm, and ID holder on the other, and a portable GPS on my wrist. I feel like a cyborg every time I go out on a run with all that gear on me.
