One good thing about being in the Navy is that you make a lot of friends with some really great people. The bad thing is that once you get a chance to become good friends, they transfer you to different parts of the world. One of the biggest excuses we have used for all getting together again are when people get married. My wedding almost doubled as a reunion of old Navy buddies, and the wedding I went to the Saturday before last in Charlottesville, VA (Jason Stumpf's wedding, for those of you who know him) was no exception.
There was one difference with this one. One of the other friends of mine that was there mentioned that we didn't have a single mutual friend from our old squadron that wasn't already married (or a confirmed bachelor). This would probably be the last "wedding reunion" in a while, maybe even until our kids (!!!) get married.
I never thought I'd see the day where almost all my good friends were married (not to mention me). Many of them have even had a kid or two. I still remember being 18-year old college and 21-year old flight students together, living off mac and cheese and going out every weekend, not a care in the world. Now we're talking about getting together for our kids' weddings. How did this happen? When did we all become adults?
My apologies for this brief glimpse into a potential developing mid-life crisis. Don't worry, I'm not going to go out and buy a Porsche or anything.
